Class Descriptions

Wake Forest Yoga practices Hatha Style Yoga which focuses on "shatkarma," the purification of the physical body as leading to the purification of the mind, and "prana," or vital energy. Hatha Yoga promotes the development of asanas into the full body postures, rather than other yoga styles that focus on seated asana, or sitting meditation posture.

 

All Levels Yoga - managed by the instructor to take each participant to the appropriate level of challenge for them. This class can be attended by everyone from beginner / novices to advanced practitioners.

Yoga Basics - this class is for students who have little or no previous experience with yoga. The class introduces forty essential poses. Emphasis is placed on the form of each pose especially the standing poses.

Yoga Basics & Beyond - starts with the basics then slowly builds towards Level 1.

Gentle Yoga - is good for the beginner, anyone with injuries or anyone who just wants to slow down. Focusing on relaxation, deep stretching, simple strengthening and most importantly breathing, this class creates space for you to unwind.

Kids Yoga - is a fun-filled class designed for children ages 6-12 that incorporates breathing, stretching, creative movement, body awareness, increased balance/coordination along with yoga games and songs. Most of all...it is FUN!

Level 1 Yoga - blend of Flow Yoga and alignment work with Pranayama (breathing) practices as well. This class is geared for intermediate through advanced students.

Level 1-2 Vinyasa Flow Yoga - move with your breath through this challenging sequence of poses which will help you quiet your mind and enjoy a long final relaxation (savasana) at the end of class. Not recommended for beginners.

Level 2 Yoga - this class continues to refine all poses. It introduces handstand, headstand and forearm balance. Additional deep backbend poses are included. Regular yoga practice outside of class is strongly encouraged. Permission of the instructor is required.

Kundalini Yoga - combines physical poses and exercises, breath work (pranayama), chanting, meditation and guided relaxation for a powerful and calming experience.

Tai Chi - offers remarkable health benefits to millions of people around the world. An elegant union of art and science, Tia Chi is a moving meditation combining mental concentration, coordinated breath and slow, fluid body movement. Embark on a step-by-step journey through Embrace the Moon form. We start with basic principles, warm up exercises and follow along as the form is presented. Easy to learn and appropriate for any age level and body type. Experience well-being, reduce stress, tone muscles and increase overall energy. Body, mind, spirit.

Yoga & Core - this class combines yoga flow with Pilates mat exercises. Our focus is on stretching & strengthening the body while improving balance, posture and overall core strength.

Power Yoga - builds heat through sun salutations, standing poses and deep stretches. Intermediate to advanced students.
